Living in East Memphis, you have plenty of opportunities for an exciting excursion with family, friends and fellow residents. One of the more popular attractions, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, offers a serene setting to appreciate stunning artwork and lush greenery.

Roughly 10 minutes away, the Pink Palace Museum is another fascinating attraction that showcases Memphis’ history and culture. It features exhibits on dinosaurs, Memphis’ role in the cotton industry, a planetarium and even a replica of the first Piggly Wiggly store.

If you’re taking the streets for some shopping, you can head to the Laurelwood Shopping Center, where you can browse through a range of upscale boutiques, specialty stores and delightful eateries. Walmart Neighborhood Market, Kroger, Dollar Tree and Walgreens are also just a short drive from the grounds.

East Memphis has endless options for local eateries, from Asian and Mexican-inspired restaurants to burger joints and, of course, barbecue stops. Located a minute away, Los Cabos Mexican Bar & Grill offers delicious Mexican cuisine with a focus on fresh ingredients and classic dishes. For a taste of classic Memphis BBQ, you can head to Big Bill’s Bar-Be-Que, just two minutes away. Other restaurants nearby Brightmore of East Memphis include Mayuri Indian Cuisine, All Star Hot Wings, Flava House and more.

Germantown

The charming suburban city of Germantown is just a 10 minute drive away from the Brightmore of East Memphis campus. Here, you can soak up the sun in its extensive park system with over 700 acres of green space. Visit the Germantown Municipal Park, featuring walking trails, sports fields, picnic areas and a lake for fishing. Take a stroll through Bobby Lanier Farm Park, where you can get a glimpse into the city’s agricultural history with a barn, farmhouse and farm animals.

History buffs can also take to the Germantown Historical Society and Museum, which offers insights into the city’s heritage. The museum showcases artifacts, photographs and exhibits that chronicle the history of Germantown and its early settlers.

If you’re looking for some entertainment, the Germantown Performing Arts Center hosts a wide range of performing arts events, including concerts, theater productions and dance performances. There’s also plenty of community events throughout the year, such as the Germantown Festival held in September each year, which features arts and crafts, live music and food vendors.

Collierville

A little over 15 minutes away from Brightmore of East Memphis lies the town of Collierville. Located just east of Memphis, this Tennessee area blends a small-town atmosphere with old-world charm and a strong sense of community.

Visit the heart of Collierville, the historic town square, where you can explore shops and boutiques or grab a bite to eat at one of the eateries in the area. The nearby Collierville Town Square Park is a must-visit for events and recreational activities, featuring a pavilion and performance stage where live music and other community events take place. For a dash of history, you can also head to the Morton Museum, located close to the town square.

If getting outdoors and appreciating nature is more of your style, W.C. Johnson Park offers spacious grounds packed with walking trails and picnic areas. You can also visit the Wolf River Greenway, a scenic trail system that follows the banks of the Wolf River, granting opportunities for walking, running and biking.
